Virus executables like Worms and Trojan horses would be the scourge of the modern computing world. More and more computer users are getting tired of the famous names in the industry with programs that slows computers down and have annoying pop-ups. There are many antivirus programs out there, but some of the best are actually free.

Free Antivirus Software
AVG, this particular software is part of my everyday life, I value every part of this software and the protection that it gives us. The free version (check the license agreement to ensure that you don't breach their rules) is rated by us as 10/10. If you go on the internet you need powerful protection, and here it is for nothing.

I have personally installed AVG Free on many individuals machines that have had a "paid for"  system onboard which have been troublesome and not able to eradicate some of the more persistent viruses. AVG Free has quickly scanned, identified and eradicated the problem where those well known commercial products have failed. If you have a business with networked computers you should download AVG's pay for version as this will afford a better solution.

Occasionally there has been a need to run in conjunction with a cleaner product to ensure the complete eradication of the Trojan or Worm. CCleaner has always proved to be the best in this instance and also has no charge. Follow the link and check out this excellent program, which in my opinion, no computer should be without.

Avast, the home edition does not involve a charge as the company believe that home users or non-commercial computer users should have access to virus and malware protection without charge. We could not agree with that sentiment more. We have provisional rated this at 7/10.

Online Computer Virus Scan
 Panda Active Scan,  if you ever wanted to get a second opinion on the security of your computer, then this is probably the link for you. You may need to download and activate ActiveX here. Online your computer will be checked for, Viruses, spyware, hacking tools and root-kits, diallers, security risks, and suspicious files.

Security
 Shields Up provides a free, online testing system for your computer and Firewalls to ensure that your computer is connected in a stealth like manner. There are lots of tools here which not only check your security but give a huge amount of information on about your system. It is fun too! We would advise that this is a good site if only to teach the unwary that it is a big bad world out there.
